He was deeply influenced by the American revolution as well as a particularly fascinating revolutionary that he writes to quite often. Social Status and/or Occupation: Thief. History: Bartholomew "Tolly" Heyward was born to a large, poor family. He is the middle of seven children, though he has lost contact with much of his family. His father was employed, though the money he made was rarely enough to keep the family fed. There were whispers that Mrs. Heyward prostituted herself out at times, or that Mr. Heyward prostituted his wife, but these were always unconfirmed. Tolly easily fell in with a rough crowd and proved himself a capable thief, though not so capable as to always avoid being caught. He was brought to court more than once, and he spent time enough in various jails. However, he never learned, always going right back to thieving once he got out. He got better at what he did, though, learning from his mistakes, and he became a competent actor, able to find ways to gain access to people's homes by their full consent. When he was seventeen, his father found him a job on a merchant ship. He lasted only one voyage, the captain refusing to deal with him again after they reached England again, calling the youth "willful" and "disrespectful." On that voyage, however, he had gone to France and come into contact with a vibrant, well-spoken, charming revolutionary not much older than himself. A friendship was quickly formed, and the two remained in contact through letters. I am not actually Tolly nor Dan Stevens.
